TransubAfrica

October 2025.

Western Cape, South Africa.

South Africa calls to those who crave a journey defined by rugged beauty, self-reliance, and a deeper connection to both the land and its heritage. If you are drawn to the idea of retracing the pioneering spirit of the early settlers, pushing your limits, and rediscovering your roots, TransubAfrica is the adventure you've been waiting for.

This isn't just another event. This is your journey, where the harsh yet stunning landscapes of South Africa—untamed and vast—will test your mettle. Forget the polished routes of Europe, the neat grids of America, or the manicured paths of Japan. TransubAfrica offers something more raw, more real: a grand tour through the heart of one of the world’s most breathtaking gravel bike packing landscapes.

An Unsupported Grand'ish Tour

In October 2025, a select group of riders will embark on a six-day odyssey, starting in Stellenbosch and winding through the majestic Cedarburg mountains, across the Overberg, and finishing in the coastal town of Hermanus. Each day promises distances of 50 km to 250 km, with a single goal: to challenge every rider to their core. You’ll be relying on your own skills, instincts, and willpower to navigate these wild routes—no support, no safety net, just you and the road.

But don’t think of this as a race. This is an experience. A chance to pull into a local pub at the end of a brutal day, share a laugh with fellow riders, and savor the rewards of self-sufficiency. Like a meditation retreat for the soul, TransubAfrica will push you to your limits and remind you what it means to be truly alive.

Heritage, the Thrill of Adventure

Much like the great treks of the past, this is about honouring the legacy of South Africa’s explorers. Every pedal stroke echoes with history as you traverse some of the most beautiful, untouched areas in the world. This is your opportunity to carve your own path—through time, through South Africa's rugged terrain, and through your own personal limits.

Bike-packing stages

TranSubAfrica is an ultra-endurance bikepacking event, but we've crafted it into six manageable stages. This way, even if you're not one of the few who crave 4+ days of non-stop racing without sleep, you can still experience the world of ultra bikepacking. Each stage pushes you to your limits, but offers enough rest to recharge and truly appreciate the journey.

We’ve designed the route to keep it as authentic and raw as possible. Forget about luxury tents, banners, or support crews waiting at every turn. You’ll be navigating rugged gravel roads and remote trails, encountering only the raw beauty of the South African wilderness. It’s just you, your bike, and the adventure that lies ahead.

This is bikepacking stripped down to its core—no frills, no shortcuts—just the open road and the challenge that comes with it.
